In Flashes of Madness, you find yourself in Cotton Asylum, a mid-20th-century psychiatric institution. Like many asylums of that era, Cotton Asylum might appear to be a place of healthcare, but the lack of standardized treatments and the dehumanization of psychiatric patients turned these places into mere laboratories, where individuals were subjected to experimental therapies against their will.
Walking through the dimly lit hallways of Cotton Asylum, you’ll be immersed in this grim reality—a forgotten aspect of history that society continues to overlook.
What goes on in the mind of a psychiatric patient who not only battles a deceptive mind but also faces the horrors of childhood trauma that still haunt them?
In Flashes of Madness, you will uncover the answer to this question as you take control of this patient, seeing the world through their eyes. Unfortunately, I cannot promise that you will share their memories, as they are so dreadful that the mind has tried to erase them for as long as it could. However, with effort, you may uncover more.
The therapies used during that era were cruel and inhumane, often treating patients as mere test subjects. Among the most infamous experimental treatments were:
- Steam Cabinets: Patients were confined in steam-filled chambers in an attempt to "purify" them of mental illnesses.
- Electroshock Therapy: A primitive form of electroconvulsive therapy, applied without proper regulation or consent.
- Lobotomies: A barbaric procedure involving the severing of parts of the brain in an attempt to treat psychiatric conditions.
In an environment blending hallucinations and enemies whose existence you cannot determine—are they real or just fragments of the mind?—you will need to survive, confront your truths, and seek clarity within Cotton Asylum.

Just played through the game. Fantastic start and I am super excited to see where it goes. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and when it was done my only disappointment was that it ended! A couple of minor issues with the torch sometimes not working straight away, but aside from that it was brilliant
Such a scary and amazing horror game, congrats guys
Super scary! Great potential with this project. Looking forward to seeing where it goes!
From the moment I launched "Echoes of Madness," I was immediately drawn into its unsettling atmosphere. This horror first-person game masterfully brings to life the eerie and oppressive environment of early 1900s asylums. Playing as a psychiatric patient, the game cleverly blends historical elements with spine-chilling gameplay that keeps you on edge.
The sound design is impeccable, with each creak and whisper amplifying the intense feeling of isolation and dread. The use of darkness and the necessity of a flashlight to navigate the asylum adds a significant layer of tension and strategy to the gameplay. It's not just about surviving but also uncovering the haunting stories embedded within the crumbling walls.
Graphically, the game impresses with detailed environments that feel both authentic and terrifying. The developers have done an excellent job of using visuals to enhance the horror, making each level a meticulous maze of fear and mystery.
"Echoes of Madness" is more than just a game; it's an experience that tests your courage and ability to face the unknown. The alpha 1.0 version already feels polished, and I am eager to see how the game evolves. The potential here is immense, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves horror games or is fascinated by the dark history of psychiatric care.
If you're playing the alpha, don't forget to leave your feedback to help shape this game into something even more terrifying and enthralling. A truly immersive and terrifying experience awaits!
Echoes of Madness is a terrifying experience that pushes you to the limit! With a tense atmosphere and dark setting, the game transports you to a mental hospital where sanity is a rare commodity. Every step, every sound and every choice takes you deeper into a world of fear and uncertainty. The exciting gameplay and engaging story keep you hooked until the end. If you like suspense and want a challenge, Echoes of Madness is the perfect game for you!
I've shit myself, now tonight I'll have to sleep with my mom and a glass of milk.
This prototype is looking amazing and the atmosphere is really scary. I am anxious to see how will be the final release!
Very interesting game, the heartbeats got me worried the first second i got into the game, it could be more explored.
It could have a commands list in the game, and would also be great a sensitivy settings.
Horror games are not genre that i play too much, but the characters felt a little slow.
I an very proud about the game we are making. We are getting a lot of good feedbacks now and it is only a prototype so far, I am sure the final version will be amazing.
Great Prototype. When I first clicked play, the heartbeats already had me worried about the monster. The pace of the player is good too, not too fast or quick. I would suggest adding sensitivity settings in your future build. (I got scared when I couldn't look back quickly hehe).
I would recommend settle heartbeat while moving from room to room, and rapid and loud one when in contact with the monster. I can't wait for future builds!
- Some QA -
The tutorial captions should stay longer, maybe until the task is done
Could have an improvement on sound design (Although it's a protoype)
Right after the red monster bit (the room with two stairs going up) there is an invisible ceiling (Maybe caused by the room switching system?)
Getting killed by the red monster gets you locked

Cool game over screens, got some genuine jumpscares. The game makes a mental confusion vibe but this doesn't impact gameplay in negative way, in fact it adds more flavor to it.
